An American Christmas Concert: Dec 9 & 10
Two performances: 7 pm Saturday, December 9 and 4 pm Sunday, December 10 in the Sanctuary
Under the direction of Dr. Sean McCarthy, the Sanctuary Choir, Celebration Choir, Chrysalis Youth Choir and Derry Ringers combine with orchestra to present lively carols from colonial America, as might have been sung at Derry Church in the late 18th century, as well as shape-note folk carols from Southern Appalachia, such as I Wonder as I Wander and Star in the East with hammered dulcimer accompaniment.
Spirituals such as Mary Had a Baby will be featured, as well as great arrangements of modern Christmas classics such as The Little Drummer Boy and Do You Hear What I Hear. Guest soloists from New York and Philadelphia returning this season include Jennifer Groves, soprano, George Somerville, tenor, Sean Jernigan, tenor and Constantine Tsourakis, baritone.
The audience will be invited to join in a sing-a-long of favorite carols.
Free will offering supports the Arts Alive cultural series.
