  • Fill and Deliver Blessing Baskets This Sunday

You’re invited to fill and deliver a Blessing Basket to one of Derry’s neighbors after worship on Sunday, December 10 in Fellowship Hall. Pick a basket and fill it with some of the donated items including candy, mini breads, notepads, flashlights, and more. We’ll include a special invitation to Christmas Eve worship at Derry. Once you fill a basket, you can sign up to take it to a specific neighbor around Derry or someone in your neighborhood. We hope to fill 35 baskets. This is a great opportunity for all ages to reach out in love from Derry to our community. Please join in helping to bless our neighbors this Christmas.

  • Thanks Christmas Decorators!

This team of decorating elves went to work on Wednesday night to dress up the church for Christmas. Come see the decorations on Sunday! Thanks for your hard work and creativity.

  • Sign the Congregational Christmas Card!

It’s the easy way to send Christmas greetings to your entire Derry Church family while you save on paper and postage and help those in need. The Christmas card will be available to sign in the Narthex on Sundays, December 10, 17 & 24. All donations received will help to offset the cost of Derry’s food ministries at Downtown Daily Bread, Penn National racetrack, and Delta Housing. The card will be included in an upcoming edition of this e-newsletter. Merry Christmas from the Mission & Peace Committee!

  • Cookie Walk Report

These smiling ladies were on hand Saturday morning to welcome shoppers to the 2017 Cookie Walk. Thanks to all the bakers, jumbles donors, callers, organizers, buyers, salespeople, and other helpers for making the Cookie Walk and Jumbles Shop a success.

  • Silent Auction Shout-Out

Many thanks to all the Derry artists, craftsmen in Hershey and Nicaragua, and to the bidders who made this year's Silent Auction a success: a total of $950 was raised for Mission Week 2018.

  • Coin Return on Sunday

Your Change 4 Children coins collected on December 10 at the end of each service go to the Alliance for Children Everywhere, which celebrated 20 years in Zambia. Their outreach has included 1000 children in crisis receiving nurturing care at House of Moses and Bill and Bette Bryant Crisis Nursery, 3000 families receiving nutrition, job training, and spiritual support through Family Preservation Program, 950 orphaned or abandoned children being reintegrated with their biological families or found forever homes and 13,000 students have received quality education through FaithWorks Christian Schools and Helen DeVos Christian School. Through 2016, Derry has contributed $12,600 towards their work.

Do you have foreign coins that you no longer need? Bag those separately and they’ll be donated to UNICEF’s Change For Good by Derry member and American Airlines pilot Brian Montgomery.

Please return your coins in Ziploc bags to the designated baskets. When you return coins, please make sure that your bag is free of paper clips, guitar picks, stray bits of metal, buttons, and anything that isn’t legal tender: these items clog the coin sorting machine. The next collection will be in March 2018, so keep on gathering those coins.

  • Where Do I Find Out About Snow Closings?

The fastest way to find out about cancellations of church services and activities is on the home page of the church website (derrypres.org). Look for the red box on the left side under the scrolling photos. On a mobile device, swipe down until you find the red box below the news box. Announcements will also be posted on the church's Facebook and Twitter pages. After hours you can check messages on the church answering machine (533-9667). If you would like to be notified by text message, send your cell phone number to Sue George (sgeorge@derrypres.org).

While local media will be contacted, church information does not have priority status for posting on TV. Most stations only post church updates on their websites.
